Description

This is how you play the cabasa: the open, slightly rounded palm is placed against the pearl necklaces and the handle is turned jerkily.

You can play the Cabasa as follows:
The open and slightly rounded palm of the hand is placed against the pearl necklaces and the grip turned with jerky movements. This creates a metallic ratcheting sound of varying length, depending on the brevity and speed of the rotation. Variation: By slightly turning the handle and the palm or pearl necklace against each other, a flowing rhythm is created that can be accentuated as required.
Another playing technique:
The Cabasa is held in the hand by the handle, so that the handle is vertical and the cylindrical headboard horizontal. By shaking the Cabasa forwards and backwards, the pearl strings, which do not fit completely, beat against the front and back of the Cabasa. This technique produces a rattlesnake-like rattling.
